I have been a Board member since 2018 and am currently a Board member at-large. I am a full time practicing Ob/Gyn and have held leadership positions in various organizations, including at my own hospital, Saint Francis in Wilmington; the Delaware Section of the American College of Ob/Gyn; and for the Medical Society of Delaware. I am an American-born Chinese and my parents immigrated from Taiwan in the 1960’s after fleeing communist China in the 1940’s. Growing up in an immigrant Chinese household, I was exposed to all aspects of Chinese culture but did not really appreciate what that culture and language really meant until I enrolled my children in Chinese School in 2009. All of my family has been involved in the Chinese school, with my son graduating in 2022, my daughter in 2021 and my husband has been enrolled, on and off, in the adult class program for 5 years. During my years of involvement with CSD, I have served the school in a variety of roles, including, chair of the PTA, Chair of the Board and now Board at large member. While the school has had a lot of challenges including staying open during the COVID pandemic, I am proud of the way our CSD community has responded and welcome the new fresh, non-Heritage families joining the CSD community. I hope to help the school grow and expand its mission of providing quality education in Chinese language and culture.
I am the new board member of the Chinese School of Delaware, CSD. When I moved to Delaware in 2008, the first place my friend showed me was Wilmington Church, and the second place was CACC. Since then, my family has developed a close connection with CACC and CSD. My wife used to be a teacher at a Chinese school, and my two kids also are the students there. We always volunteer in CACC and CSD activities, such as Chinese New Year, Chinese Festival, etc. I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve for CSD.
Janus Lin 林健元 -- CSD Board Chair
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Board of the Chinese School of Delaware (CSD). I am American-born Chinese and since we don't speak Mandarin at home appreciate the Immersion classes that the school offers. My family lives in PA where Chinese is not offered in school. One of my daughters is currently attending CSD -- one of the best aspects of CSD are the culture classes and events that the school hosts beyond just your typical "classroom" instruction time. It's great to see the children participate in and enjoy these sessions!
My name is Farida Moxon-Emre and I have two children who are learning Mandarin Chinese, and I am honored to be an active member of the Chinese School of Delaware’s Board. There are many global cultures and languages to become immersed in. Having grown up in a diverse community, and being exposed to many cultures, religions and having a degree in Anthropology, I have always had a passion for Chinese culture and language. My Husband and I decided early on that we wanted our children to learn Mandarin Chinese.
